The move is part of a drive to create several thousand jobs in Europe in 2016. The US-based company currently employs 4,500 people on long-term contracts in Poland.
Marzena Więckowska, a spokeswoman for Amazon Poland, said the new jobs would be created in three logistics centers near the western cities of Poznań and Wrocław, and in the northern city of Gdańsk as well as in Warsaw.
"A significant proportion of the new jobs will be jobs requiring high qualifications, including in IT, engineering, finance, HR and logistics,” Więckowska told the PAP news agency.
“Towards the end of the year the number of people employed by Amazon in Poland is to reach 5,500," she added.
