Suma Chakrabarti won a second term in office during the vote.

Belka, a former PM of Poland and IMF director, was Poland’s official candidate for the top post at the EBRD.

The chances for Belka to clinch the position from Chakrabarti were slim, experts said ahead of the election.

“It must be kept in mind that the present head of the EBRD [Sir Suma Chakrabarti] is concluding his first term and he definitely has an appetite to stay in the chair for another,” said Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, a former Polish PM and later a director at EBRD in London, who also vied for the top post four years ago.
