The data published on Monday by Eurostat, the EU's statistics agency, comes a day after the EU and Canada signed the CETA free trade agreement.
According to Eurostat, Germany, with a balance of EUR 6.9 bln, had the largest trade surplus in the EU in 2015, followed by Italy (EUR 2.2 bln) and France (EUR 1.1 bln).
The UK had the largest trade deficit with Canada, at EUR 6.7 bln.
The CETA agreement envisages doing away with practically all tariffs between European Union countries and Canada as well as liberalising trade in services. (rg)
