Polish LOT airline to receive eighth, final 787-8 Dreamliner

A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will on Friday make its maiden voyage from the US to Poland to join the fleet of state-owned Polish Airlines LOT.

It is the last of eight 787-8 Dreamliners ordered after LOT decided to retire its older Boeing 767 aeroplanes.
In 2012, LOT purchased the 252-passenger aircraft in order to boost its long-haul schedule, becoming Europe’s first airline to have a Dreamliner in its fleet.
“The eighth Dreamliner will mean the development of our fleet, the increased frequency of some of our connections, and also allows us to carry more passengers,” LOT CEO Rafał Milczarski said.
The new aeroplane will allow LOT to provide more connections to Seoul, Tokyo and Newark.
Milczarski said that, if not for the Dreamliners in LOT’s fleet, the airline “would not fly to many of the places to which it currently does.”
Next year LOT will add a further three Dreamliners to its fleet and a fourth in 2019, but they will be larger and more fuel-efficient 787-9-model Dreamliners which will carry up to 294 passengers.
Lot expects to fly 6.6 million passengers this year, up from 5.5 million last year and 4.3 million in 2015. (vb/pk)
