Taxman to help Poland's low earners

The tax-free allowance for Poland’s lowest earners will increase next year, the country’s finance minister has said.

The allowance will grow to PLN 8,000 (EUR 1,870, USD 2,244) a year, Mateusz Morawiecki told Polish Radio.
At the moment, personal income tax for Poles kicks in when earnings reach PLN 6,600 a year.
The move announced by Morawiecki would mark another hike in the tax-free allowance under the country’s conservative government.
In November last year the Polish parliament approved an increase to PLN 6,600 from just PLN 3,091.
A pledge to raise the tax-free threshold was among a swathe of promises made by the governing Law and Justice (PiS) party, especially to the poor, ahead of its victory in Poland’s parliamentary elections in October 2015.
