Polish gas giant Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) says it has asked Russian monopoly Gazprom to renegotiate the price of natural gas delivered to Poland under a long-term contract.

The so-called Yamal contract, which was signed in 1996, allows for a price change every three years, PGNiG's management board said on Wednesday.
The Yamal contract is a long-term agreement between PGNiG and Gazprom for the delivery of gas to Poland. It expires in 2022.
In 2015, PGNiG filed for arbitration with the Stockholm Arbitration Tribunal in a dispute with Gazprom, seeking to change prices under the long-term contract.
In September, Poland’s Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said Poland aimed to stop importing natural gas from Russia after 2022.
The country wants to become completely independent of Russian gas supplies not to be vulnerable to potential “political action” by Moscow, Waszczykowski told reporters at the time. He also said that Poland wanted to have “the possibility of importing natural gas from other, politically safe, directions."
In late May, Polish officials announced plans to gradually replace gas supplies from Russia with imports from northern Europe.
