Poland’s apple harvest this year could reach up to 5 million tonnes, setting a record, state news agency PAP has reported.

Finding takers might, however, prove a problem, according to Waldemar Żółcik, head of the Fruit Union, an association of Polish distributors of fruit and vegetables.
Poland is the largest apple producer in the European Union.
Last year the country produced around 3 million tonnes of the fruit, of which more than 1 million tonnes was exported, according to PAP.
Growers were forced to look for new markets in the wake of a Russian embargo on Polish fruit in 2014.
