Poles are on track to take out some 200,000 mortgages this year, the Polish Bank Association (ZBP) has estimated.

The loans could be worth a combined PLN 50 billion (EUR 11.7 billion, USD 13.7 billion), the highest figure in years, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported, citing the banking organisation.

According to a study by the country’s central bank, a growing number of people in Poland are taking out housing loans.

The National Bank of Poland's Piotr Kasprzak said earlier this month that more people were deciding to buy homes on the back of a strong economy, falling unemployment, rising wages and job security.
