LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki branded the strike “illegal.”

“The company has cancelled three flights from Warsaw and seven flights to Poland, in total 10 flights; 386 flights will go ahead without change,” said Kubicki.

Among the cancelled flights were connections from Warsaw to Luxembourg, Moscow and Kiev, state news agency PAP reported.

Twelve flights to and from the Polish capital were cancelled on Wednesday.

Dozens of LOT staff started a picket outside the national carrier’s Warsaw head office last week in a protest against the sacking of the head of a cabin crew trade union.

They want Monika Żelazik, the head of the union, to be reinstated along with 67 other staff who have since been sacked over their participation in the protest. They are also calling for LOT CEO Rafał Milczarski to quit.

LOT pilots and cabin crew have also been demanding better conditions.
