Sales of electric cars in Poland have doubled thanks to tax breaks, but the country is still far behind neighbouring Germany, the Gazeta Wyborcza daily has reported.

In the first quarter of this year, 620 new electric vehicles were registered in Poland, according to the paper.
Citing the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, the daily said the result for the first three months was almost twice that in the same period of last year.
Poland has around 600 charging stations for electric vehicles, according to the paper.
In terms of so-called electromobility, Poland is now leading the field in Central Europe, outpacing Hungary, Gazeta Wyborcza reported.
Meanwhile in Germany, 22,300 electric vehicles were registered in the first quarter of this year -- 37 times more than in Poland, the paper noted.
Poland’s Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski said in 2016 that he would like to see a million electric vehicles on the streets of the country’s cities in 10 years.
