Anna Grodzka is not only Poland's first transgender MP, but is also vying for the position of head of state, the post of President of the Republic.

In an interview with website Wirtualna Polska (WP), Grodzka said that “Following years of debate about partnerships, about openness, it is easier in Poland to accept homosexuals than transgender individuals.”

The politician, who will run with Poland's Green party, added that Poland's lower house of parliament has accepted homosexual politician Robert Biedroń “one hundred percent,” but MPs, still “do not respect Anna Grodzka.”

On Saturday, another party put forward its nomination.

Following weeks of discussion, junior coalition member Polish People's Party (PSL) has announced that Adam Jarubas will represent the party in the presidential elections slated for later this year.

“The [party's] Governing Council has issued a positive opinion, and we have a candidate for President of the Republic,” PSL head Janusz Piechociński told a press conference Saturday.

“He is a young, outstanding, reliable politician of the youngest generation,” Piechociński added. (rg)
