Kwaśniewski and Miller agreed on common lie?

“CIA prisons? If anyone asks, we don’t know anything,” is the 2013 conversation between Kwaśniewski and Miller – then President and Prime Minister respectively – Wprost reported on Monday.

On Monday, the weekly published new information about the recordings which are part of the “Tape affair” which rocked the political and business spheres in Poland in 2014.

A year previously, Wikileaks published reports that Poland had hosted a CIA black site where terrorist suspects were held and tortured.

The tapes were recorded by two waiters in upscale restaurants in the Polish capital, Warsaw. One of the waiters has a clear recollection of the events of that fateful night.

"They were scared," the waiter, known only as Konrad L., said about the two men.

"The Politicians spoke quietly and established a common version of events, if someone were to ask them about the CIA prisons. They asked each other, if any of them had signed some documents, and if they could be recovered," the weekly writes.

In mid-February, The European Court of Human Rights confirmed Poland's complicity in the CIA torture programme.

For many years Kwaśniewski and Miller has consistently denied having any knowledge of black sites in the country, but in December, they addressed a joint press conference where they said Poland was asked to provide a “quiet location” for interrogating suspects following the September 11 attacks.

Following on media reports made on Friday that the mastermind behind the recordings, Polish businessman Marek Falenta, had in fact been working for the opposition Law and Justice (PiS), which was denied by the party, Monday’s Wprost adds that Falenta promised the waiters a “reward” by one of his “good contacts” within the party.

Falenta is said to have told them that this would happen only “once the party returned to power”. (rg)
