The exhibition, entitled Women in the Fight for Polish Independence, will focus on the efforts of women from the League of Women of Galicia and Cieszyn Silesia and the League of Women. The latter was formed thanks to the support of statesman Józef Piłsudski who is considered the father of Polish independence.

Some 16,000 women made up the ranks of the women's organisations in 1918.

They aimed to help war orphans by building homes, shelters and medical centres while promoting women in the workforce and women's health.

The exhibition will remain on show on Poland's iconic Krakowskie Przedmieście street until October 22. (vb)
