More than 13,000 Polish scouts and girl guides from 27 countries descended on the Polish coastal city of Gdańsk on Monday for the event which also marks 100 years of Poland’s regained independence.

The scouts and girl guides donned white or red T-shirts and stood in a field to make a Polish flag to mark the occasion.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Twitter: “The living flag made by you, scouts, is a beautiful sign of your patriotism. One hundred years ago, scouting was born together with Independent” Poland.

Morawiecki toured the campground set up to house the scouts at the jamboree. He also visited a field exhibition dedicated to the history of scouting in Poland, and he placed a piece of wood in a bonfire which will burn until the event ends on August 16. (vb/pk)
