Majewski's victory in Beijing four years ago caused a sensation, and the Polish record-holder will get his chance for a second shot at gold tonight at 9.30 pm.
Although the Pole is now a more established competitor, no shot putter has ever successfully defended their Olympic title since 1956.
Meanwhile, there are also medal hopes in store for Poland on water.
Poland's crew in the male quadruple sculls is defending their Olympic title, with the final due to start at 12.30 pm.
The Polish foursome of Michal Jelenski, Marek Kolbowicz, Adam Korol and Konrad Wasielewski is admittedly the oldest group entering the rowing lake at Eton Dorney today, with a combined age of 137. However, come what may, the crew will be fighting until the finishing line.
Just forty minutes later, Poland has another medal chance in the final of the women's double sculls, with Magdelana Fularczyk and Julia Michalska preparing for the clash.
Volleyball players cling on
After a disappointing loss to Bulgaria on Tuesday, Poland's men's volleyball team beat Argentina in straight sets on Thursday 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-16).
It was a crucial boost for the Poles, who came to the tournament fresh from winning the World League title.
Having already defeated Italy in their the first Group A match in London, the Poles must now face the hosts on Saturday.
Rather fortunately for the Poles, the British side has yet to win a match in the tournament. (nh)
