Relay bronze rounds off Zurich games in style

Poland took bronze in the men's 4x400m relay at the European Championships in Zurich on Sunday, ending the games with the country's best medal count since 1966, finishing 6th overall.

The Polish relay team clocked in a time of 2:59.85 with a blistering final leg from Jakub Krzewina. The UK took gold and Russia silver.
The women's 4x400m relay team also performed well in the final, with Poland finishing fifth in the event.
Earlier in the day, Ethiopian-born runner Yared Shegumo won silver for Poland in the marathon, clinching Poland's fifth silver of the games.
The championships were an inspiring overall success for Poland, with 12 medals in total.
The Zurich games marked Poland's best performance at the European Championships since 1966, when the team won 15 medals in Budapest. Poland managed 13 medals in the Belgrade games of 1962, and the Zurich total matched that of Stockholm in 1958.
Poland's two gold medals were won by hammer thrower Anita Wlodarczyk, and Adam Kszczot, who triumphed in the 800m.
The team's final tally was 2 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronzes. The UK won the championships, followed by France, Germany, Russia and the Netherlands. (nh)
