Radwańska powers into Tokyo quarter-finals

Poland's Agnieszka Radwańska made short shrift of Ukrainian opponent Elina Svitolina (6-4, 6-1) on Thursday in Tokyo, winning a place in the quarter-finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open.

Radwańska, who won the tournament in 2011, has high hopes of regaining the title this year.
“I'm happy to play another great match here and be in another quarter-final in Tokyo,” Radwanska said after the clash.
“Elina's one of the best young players on tour at the moment,” she added.
“I think we both have a similar style so sometimes it felt like I was playing myself.”
The Kraków-born player, who is currently ranked No. 13 in the world by WTA, will now face Czech challenger Karolina Pliskova (WTA No. 11), in what looks set to be a tough match.
This year's tournament ends on Sunday 27 September. (nh/rk)
