President awards honours to Polish athletes

Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday awarded state honours to athletes who won medals at the recent Olympic Games and Paralympics in Rio.

“Thank you so much for this effort, for the great results and the happiness, pride and satisfaction which you brought to the whole of Polish society, to all Poles, not only in the country but also to those who live abroad,” Duda said during a ceremony in Warsaw.
He added: “The summer Olympic Games in Rio brought Poland 11 medals. The summer Paralympics in Rio brought us 39, including nine gold medals, as well as 19 fourth places.”
At the Rio Olympic Games, Poland won two golds, three silvers and six bronzes - the best result in 16 years.
At the Rio Paralympics, Poland was 10th out of 162 countries in the overall classification.
