Four world championship medals for Polish canoers, kayakers

Poland’s canoers and kayakers claimed a total of four medals, two silver and two bronze, at this year’s Canoe Sprint World Championships in Racice in the Czech Republic.

On Sunday, the last day of the event, Poland won two silvers and a bronze to add to another bronze it secured a day earlier.
Poland’s Piotr Kuleta, Marcin Grzybowski, Tomasz Barniak and Wiktor Głazunow won silver in the C4 1000 m after finishing second only to a German team of Conrad Scheibner, Stefan Kiraj, Sebastian Brendel and Jan Vandrey.
In the two other Polish podium finishes on Sunday, the canoe duo of Michał Łubniewski and Arsen Śliwiński took silver in the men’s C2 200 m event -- after coming in second in the final race behind Alexander Kovalenko and Ivan Shtyl of Russia -- and Mateusz Kamiński was third in the C1 5000 m, behind Germany’s Sebastian Brendel and Cuba’s Serguey Torres Madrigal.
On Saturday, Poland's kayak duo of Justyna Iskrzycka and Paulina Paszek won the bronze in the women's K2 1000 m event.
The championships took place in Racice, a rowing and flatwater canoeing venue in the northern Czech Republic, from 23 to 27 August. (str/pk)
