Poland has beaten Sweden 33:30 (17:15) in its first game of the women's handball world championships in Germany.

After an even first half, Poland scored five goals in quick succession at the beginning of the second half, taking the score to 26:19. The Poles maintained a lead until the final whistle.
Poland plays against the Czech Republic on Sunday and will also face off against Norway, Argentina and Hungary in the group round. (vb/pk)
