Polish disabled athletes win medals in Berlin

Polish disabled track-and-field athletes won six medals on day one of the Para Athletics European Championships in Berlin, a news agency reported.

Poland’s Aleksander Kossakowski took the gold in the men’s 1,500 m in the T11 category for visually impaired athletes on Monday. Guided by Krzysztof Wasilewski, the runner finished in 4:22.25, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Bartosz Tyszkowski and Lucyna Kornobys added two more golds for Poland in the men’s and women’s shot put competitions respectively.
They both set world records in their respective categories, Tyszkowski with an effort of 14.04 m (F41), and Kornobys with 7.49 m (F33).
Meanwhile, Poland’s Joanna Olesiuk claimed the silver in the women’s shot put (F33, with a best throw of 5.59 m), and Katarzyna Piekart added another in the women’s javelin throw (F46, with 32.59 m).
Countryman Łukasz Czarnecki took the bronze in the men’s javelin throw in the F38 category, with an effort of 43.62 m.
The Para Athletics European Championships in Berlin run until Sunday.
