Dutch cyclist wins first stage of Poland’s Solidarity Race

Dutch cyclist Arvid de Kleijn has won stage one of Poland’s international Solidarity Race, which is now in its 30th year.
Around 110 cyclists from various countries are taking part in the five-stage 888-kilometre-long race, which started in the central city of Łódź on Tuesday.
The first leg of the annual race saw cyclists cover a 214 km route ending in the town of Sieradz.
The remaining stages of the 30th Solidarity Race, which is also known as the Course de Solidarność et des Champions Olympique, will take riders through a number of other mid-sized towns in central and southeastern Poland.
These include Zgierz, Kutno, Kielce, Radom, Skarżysko-Kamienna, Stalowa Wola and Tarnobrzeg.
The race will end in Krosno in the southeast of the country on Saturday.
Polish rider Sylwester Janiszewski won last year's Solidarity Race.
Poland will next month be hosting its largest cycling race, the Tour de Pologne, due to take place from August 3 to 9.
