Sunday’s dramatic final in Beijing against German hopeful Andrea Petrovic provided a nerve-wracking ride for Radwanska’s fans, but Poland’s star player managed to pull through, winning the match in three sets (7-5, 0-6, 6-4).
After a tight first set, matters appeared to get decidedly out of hand for Radwanska with Petrovic not dropping a single game in the second set.
However, the 22-year-old Cracovian came back on court for the final set resolved to put things right, clinching the crucial clash 6-4.
“It feels great to return to the final at the China Open,” Radwanska told the China Daily (she lost the final in 2009).
“Today’s match was pretty tough; we both played 200 percent,” she said, adding that she hoped to return next year.
The victory in Beijing marks Radwanska's third title in just nine weeks, having won the San Diego Open on 7 August, the Pan Pacific Open on 1 October and the China Open on 9 October. (nh/jb)
