The country's very first safe haven for members of sexual minorities has just welcomed its first patrons. Aside from a rooftop over their heads, the residents may count on psychological counselling, legal advice and a support group, as they strive to turn a new leaf.
"We have many contacts from LGBT people who have problems with acceptance from their families," says Yga Kostrzewa, spokesperson for the Lambda Association, co-running the hostel alongside transgender rights ngo Transfuzja. "Sometimes they're 18 years old, or 19, and have to live on their own," she tells Q&A host Alicja Baczyńska.
