A total of 260 ethnic Poles, descendants of those deported by the former Soviet Union, have returned to Poland in 2017, according to repatriation officials.

A new repatriation law that came into force in May introduced new forms of financial help and made it easier for people of Polish descent to arrive and settle in Poland.

"This year is a test year for us. As the repatriation law is really good, the process will be spread over 10 years, and each year, I hope, 1,000 people will be repatriated to Poland," the head of Poland’s repatriation authority, Aleksandra Ślusarek, said.
