European heads of state and top EU officials attended celebrations in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.
The Polish presidential couple were joined by the presidents of Germany, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia and Iceland and Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria for the main official event at Daukanto Square in front of the Presidential Palace in Vilnius.
On Thursday, the Polish head of state met with representatives of the Polish community and awarded state distinctions to 18 Poles for their contributions to the promotion of Polish language and traditions.
Andrzej Duda thanked the Polish community for its efforts of preserving the Polish culture and added that during his meeting with Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite he will be discussing the most pressing problems of the Polish community in Lithuania.
"I think that Polish Lithuanian political ties are heading in the right direction, and I hope that these good relations will help improve the situation of Poles in Lithuania,” Duda said.
