Organisers claim 4,000 turned up in Warsaw on Sunday for the annual 'Manifa' demonstration in protest at what they claim is continued gender inequality in the labour market and family.

Similar, but smaller, demonstrations took place in the cities of Krakow, Gdansk, Lodz, Wroclaw and Kielce following International Women's Day last week.
Under banners reading 'independance for Polish woman' and 'ten years, no change' - and in Krakow, 'Krakow needs feminism' - the protesters called on the government for measures including the liberalisation of Poland's strict abortion laws and more state nursery places.
In some cities, counter-demonstrations took place by nationalist and right wing groups. (pg)
