The police in the central Polish city of Łódź have charged the man with "the illicit manufacture of weapons" without a licence.
They confiscated twelve walking canes which had a foot long steel blade hidden inside.
The blade could be withdrawn by pulling on the handle. Some were intricately engraved to resemble a dog’s head.
“We suspected that [the man] might be illegally manufacturing weapons, which is why we conducted a check,” Aneta Sobieraj from the Łódź police station told the TVN24 website.

“He sold them, among others, at the Łódź car market. He claimed that, depending on the material from which the products were manufactured, he was able to sell them for between PLN 200-400 (EUR50-100),” Sobieraj added.
The man could face a jail term if found guilty. (rg)
