Former Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski said he will not stand in the parliamentary elections this autumn.

The former minister said his decision is related to the phone-hacking scandal that erupted in 2014 and came back to haunt some high-profile members of the administration in May, including Rostowski.
“I'm curious how tapes of our colleagues from the opposition would sound and how it happened that they were never recorded,” he added.
There is an ongoing investigation into the so-called ‘tape scandal’ which rocked the financial and political spheres in 2014. The recordings, made by at least two waiters at high-end restaurants in Warsaw, included confidential conversations between top members of government and public servants.
Rostowski said that he will probably not withdraw completely from politics.
He joined the cabinet of PM Donald Tusk in 2007 and served as Finance Minister until November 2013 and is an MP on the list of the ruling Civic Platform (PO) party. (jh)
