Farmer killed as lightning strikes combine harvester

A farmer was killed and four other family members injured when lightning struck a combine harvester in Książniczki, near Kraków, on Wednesday.

The entire family of five, taking in the farmer's wife and their four children, were in the vehicle when a storm descended on much of the southern Małopolska region.
“In spite of a two-hour bid to rescuscitate him, the 47-year-old operator of the combine harvester died,” commented police spokesperson Katarzyna Cislo.
The remaining family members were taken to hospitals in Kraków.
Although they appear to be making a recovery, fire brigade spokesperson Sebastian Wożniak acknowleged that “the effects of lightning can only be clarified after a thorough analysis.”
Poland is in the midst of a heat wave at, with sporadic storms lashing the country. (nh/rk)
