The party, running in the parliamentary race as part of the United Left coalition, has won no seats in the general ballot having fallen below the electoral threshold of eight percent needed for a coalition to enter Parliament.
The party is now to look into its defeat and set plans for the future at the upcoming National Council meeting, to be held on 7 November, followed by a National Convention, Miller announced on Wednesday.
The gatherings are to pave the way for a major reshuffle within the grouping's ranks, a move to be made official at the SLD Congress in December.
That is when Leszek Miller will step down from office in line with an earlier announcement made in June.
"You will see the new head of SLD and party leadership on 5 December," the outgoing party chief declared.
The United Left, bringing together SLD, Your Movement, Labour United, the Greens and the Polish Socialist Party, garnered 7.55 percent of votes in Sunday's general elections. (aba/rg/rk)
