Experts have concluded that there is no train laden with gold looted by the Nazis buried in the south of Poland.

Investigators from the Kraków Academy of Mining (AGH) told a press conference Tuesday that while there might be a tunnel under the mountains around Wałbrzych in southern Poland, there is “no train.”
The head of the team of researchers who conducted a wide range of tests in the area, AGH’s Janusz Madej, said that his group studied the piece of land over the apparent tunnel.
Madej explained that the geologists used magnetic-resonance equipment to try to decipher whether there was a large metal object under the ground.
“According to our research there perhaps is a tunnel, but there is no train in this area,” Madej said.
The findings end months of speculation that riveted Poland and the rest of the world following an unconfirmed report by a Pole and German that they had found a train carrying gold and precious gems stolen by Nazi troops during WWII.
The two men wanted a “finder’s fee” to disclose the exact location of the train.
Back in August, deputy Culture Minister Piotr Zuchowski had said that ground-penetrating radar had shown that there was a “99-percent likelihood” that such a train was buried in the miles of secret tunnels dug by the Nazis in the region. (rg/pk)
