Justice Minister takes on role of state prosecutor

The appointment comes after the end of the term of former state prosecutor Andrzej Seremet.

Prime Minister Beata Szydło said on Thursday that the changes are aimed to restore confidence and trust in the justice system, and give the impression that the state properly fulfills its obligation to take care of security.

“Very often, people have a sense that the justice system is not performing its duties in a way that they are convinced that it is really on the side of those who are innocent or victims. It is also often said that it is the criminals who have some special opportunities and privileges,” Szydło explained.

Zbigniew Ziobro had earlier said: “I know that some will not like it, because so far they’ve been busy shuffling files from desk to desk. But we are not interested in making life comfortable for them […] The most important thing is the security of Poles and effective work by prosecutors.” (rg)
