Main Polish parties fall in opinion poll

Ruling party Law and Justice and rivals Civic Platform and Nowoczesna have all seen a drop in support, according to a new opinion poll carried out by the Public Opinion Research Centre (CBOS).

The new poll indicates that if a snap general election were to took place, 34 percent of respondents would vote for the socially conservative Law and Justice, down 3 percent on CBOS's survey carried out between 2 and 4 March.
Meanwhile, centrist party Civic Platform, which led a coalition government for eight years before losing the 25 October general election, would receive 14 percent of the vote, down 4 percent.
Fellow centrist grouping Nowoczesna has also seen a drop of 3 percent, with 16 percent of respondents saying they would back the party.
Of the four leading parties in parliament, only the Kukiz' 15 grouping has seen an increase in support. According to CBOS, Kukiz' 15 – led by veteran rock star Paweł Kukiz - would garner 12 percent of the vote. The party recently stepped up its anti-immigrant rhetoric, gathering signatures for a referendum on the matter. The Polish government recently confirmed that it will take in 7000 refugees, in line with EU requests agreed to by the previous government. (nh)
