Bartosz K. was sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday after being found guilty of raping a 9-year-old boy in the city of Grudziądz, northern Poland.

He committed the crime on the day he was released from prison after serving a previous sentence.

Ziobro, who is also Attorney General, argued in a statement that it is “incomprehensible” that the defendant should receive such “a decidedly light sentence” from the District Court in Torun.

Meanwhile, Poland's National Prosecutor's Office has noted that at the request of Ziobro, the justice ministry is already working towards altering the Criminal Code so that stiffer sentences can be meted out to those who commit the cruellest murders, rapes and other crimes. (nh)
