Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło announced Poland would strive to provide rural communities with equal opportunities at a convention on the country's agricultural sector which was held in the southern town of Wojnicz on Sunday.

"We want the Polish countryside to have equal opportunities... not only [in] agriculture but also schools, culture, infrastructure or health care," Szydło said.
She said that rural Poland receives support through the government's 500+ aid programme, providing families with child benefits. "Thirty-six percent of the children who benefit from the programme live in the countryside," Szydło said.
Also at the convention, the governing Law and Justice party's head Jarosław Kaczyński thanked farmers for their votes in the October 2015 elections.
"We are proud of the support given by the Polish farmers, we are proud that we are a party of trust for the Polish countryside," Kaczyński said.
He also said, the sale of state-owned land should be restricted until Poland's "farmers get richer."
"Polish land is not for strangers, for speculators, it is [intended] for Polish farmers, (…) it is a value that should be protected," he said.
A law making it harder for foreigners to buy state-owned land in Poland entered into force in April. (ał/vb)
