Eight die in road crash, central Poland

Eight people have died and ten are injured after a head-on collision between a goods lorry and a minibus carrying a group of men to work.

According to emergency services at the scene, the accident happened a few minutes past 06.00 CET this morning on National Route 8 in Chrzczonowice between Rawa Mazowiecka and Mszczonow, central Poland.
The passengers on the minibus were workers of the Solid protection agency, mostly between 50 and 60 years old, it is reported.
According to preliminary reports, the accident happened after the front left tire of the lorry burst, causing the goods vehicle to swerve onto oncoming traffic on the other side of the road, where it hit head on with the minibus.
Five men and three women died in the crash, including the minibus driver. The lorry driver has been taken to hospital after sustaining multiple injuries. (jb)
