Polish conservative leader hails new centre-right Alliance party

Poland’s conservative leader Jarosław Kaczyński on Saturday hailed a new centre-right party called Alliance that was officially launched at a convention in Warsaw.

The new party, formed as a result of an expansion of the Poland Together group led by deputy prime minister Jarosław Gowin, is allied with the country’s ruling conservatives.
“I am very happy that you are setting up a new party that is not a result of dividing an existing group, but a result of a creative act of bringing together political circles that are closely akin to one another ideologically,” Kaczyński said in a letter to convention participants.
He also said he was "pleased that this broad-based group will enrich our political community, the United Right."
Kaczyński’s letter was read by senior conservative politician Mariusz Błaszczak, who is deputy leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and interior minister in the government of Beata Szydło.
Kaczyński said in the letter he wanted to attend the convention in person, but that he was ill.
