Many parents traditionally send their children away on vacation or take them skiing when Polish pupils start a two-week break.
Children in four provinces begin their vacations on Saturday. In other regions, the school holidays start on different dates, with the winter vacation season ending on February 25.
Deputy Interior Minister Jarosław Zieliński has told Poland’s police chief to ensure children stay safe.
Zieliński said he wanted police to check if coaches and other vehicles used to whisk young people away on their holidays are safe, whether drivers are sober, and to keep an eye on rail and bus stations.
