One of the miners was located late on Saturday but showed no signs of life, according to reports.
Rescuers were still scrambling to reach him on Sunday morning, while four other men had yet to be found.
About 250 miners were underground when the tremor hit the Zofiówka coal mine in the southern Polish town of Jastrzębie-Zdrój at around 11 am on Saturday.
Two miners trapped some 900 metres underground have since been found alive. They were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited them in the hospital on Saturday evening.
While in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Morawiecki said he hoped the remaining miners would also be saved even though the rescue operation was difficult.
Rescuers were being hampered by high temperatures and high levels of methane in the mine.
