Hundreds of low-cost flats to be built in southern Warsaw

The apartments will be built on a 15-hectare lot in Warsaw’s southern Ursynów district in a project coordinated by state-owned company BGK Nieruchomości, with construction scheduled to begin next spring, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported.

The Nowe Jeziorki housing estate near the Warszawa-Jeziorki rail station will be built to a high standard and serve its tenants for decades, Poland’s Deputy Investment and Development Minister Artur Soboń said on Tuesday after architects were selected to design the project.

BGK Nieruchomości board member Grzegorz Muszyński said the apartments would come with accompanying infrastructure and meet the needs of both young people and the elderly.

Polish President Andrzej Duda earlier this month signed into law a bill aiming to speed up the construction of new homes amid a housing shortage.

According to real estate experts, there is still a shortage of around 3 million housing units in Poland.

The number of homes completed in Poland rose 6.3 percent in the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2017, the country’s Central Statistical Office reported last month.
