A spokeswoman for Zabrze police, Agnieszka Żyłka, has told Poland's PAP news agency: “A police appeal made in the media has reached women who have decided to turn to the police and give their statements."
Based on findings so far, some of the alleged offences may have been committed as far back as 2012, PAP reported.
The doctor, identified only as Monzer M. (last name withheld under Poland’s privacy laws), has faced charges including subjecting patients to sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual activity, according to media reports.
Each such offence carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
The investigation was opened two months ago after a woman reported suspected sexual abuse to the police.
