Polish PM calls for unity at Independence Day march

Speaking in Tychy, southern Poland, he called on the opposition and organisers of Independence Day marches held in recent years to take part together in an Independence March on November 11 and refrain from making political capital out of the anniversary.

Morawiecki said he wanted to hold “a grand march of unity of our state and nation”.

Referring to fears that fascist or anti-Semitic slogans may appear on banners, Morawiecki proposed allowing only red-and-white national flags to be carried during the march.

He said the march should be led by World War II veterans, with scouts helping those in wheelchairs. “I myself will be somewhere at the end or in the middle of the crowd,” he said.
