Polish ruling party widens lead in new survey

Poland’s ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party is backed by 45 percent of voters who say they would take part in parliamentary elections, according to the latest survey by pollster Estymator.

Support for Law and Justice, which swept to power in late 2015, went up by 0.8 percentage points from a similar survey in August.
Meanwhile, backing for the opposition Civic Platform (PO) party, which governed Poland from 2007 to 2015, slipped 0.9 percentage points to 23.9 percent, the survey found.
The left-wing Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), now outside parliament, is third on 8.1 percent, and the rural-based Polish People’s Party (PSL) is fourth on 7.4 percent, according to the survey, which was published by the DoRzeczy.pl website on Sunday.
The anti-establishment Kukiz’15 group would also make it into the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, on 6.9 percent, according to the study.
The poll found no other parties would clear the 5 percent support threshold needed to enter parliament.
The survey was conducted on September 20 and 21 on a nationwide representative sample of 1,006 adult respondents. It does not include responses from undecided voters.
