Zbigniew Ziobro vowed at a news conference that those selling designer drugs would be tracked down and brought to justice, including those who operate via the internet.

He said that dealers selling designer drugs online “create the impression that the transaction is safe for buyers and make young people hope they will experience a moment of euphoria, while in reality they go through tragic moments of huge suffering, pain,” and health problems that sometimes end in death.

Ziobro, who is also Poland's prosecutor-general, appealed to parents to talk to teenagers about the dangers posed by such substances.

Poland’s government this summer approved plans aiming to crack down on designer drugs.

Under changes to the law that were subsequently backed by parliament and came into force on August 21, anyone caught with a significant amount of such drugs intended for their own use faces up to three years in prison.

Suspects caught selling designer drugs face a prison term of up to 12 years.

Meanwhile, hospitals are required to report cases in which they treat people who have taken such substances.
