Poland and Croatia in 2015 launched a regional drive called the Three Seas Initiative to boost infrastructure, energy and economic cooperation as well as political ties among 12 European countries.
The new Polish research centre, named as the Central Europe Institute, is expected to provide strategic research to support government policy related to other Three Seas Initiative countries, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported, citing the Prime Minister’s Office in Warsaw.
The new institute will also aim to ensure that Three Seas Initiative policies are fully in line with Poland’s strategic national interests, according to IAR.
The research centre will be directly supervised by the prime minister and financed from government as well as European Union funds, the news agency reported on Tuesday.
The Three Seas Initiative brings together Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.
