Political leaders offer Christmas greetings to Poles

President Andrzej Duda and the First Lady have wished Poles a happy Christmas in the company of their loved ones.

“On the occasion of Christmas, we would like to extend … our very best wishes to all members of our Polish community at home and abroad,” the president said in a video message.

“May our hearts be filled with peace, trust and the sense of closeness ... that is the core message of Christmas,” he added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has wished people “a Christmas filled with safety, peace and warmth ... a Christmas spent among our loved ones, families and friends.”

Morawiecki said in his greetings that Christmas was a “special time … a time when barriers disappear and when we notice that there are more things uniting us than dividing us.”

Conservative leader Jarosław Kaczyński, head of Poland’s governing Law and Justice (PiS) party, has also offered Christmas and New Year’s greetings in a video message. He wished his compatriots “a happy, cheerful, familial and merry Christmas” and prosperity in the new year.

Kaczyński said that the ending year, in which Poland celebrated the centennial of regaining its independence, was one of "many positive developments," including economic success for the country.
