Beata Mazurek, a spokeswoman for the governing, conservative Law and Justice party, said the government supported the agriculture sector, adding that officials were “always ready to talk.”
She added: “Farmers, like other groups, have the right to protest. But blocking roads violates the right of other citizens to move freely around the country. There can be no acceptance for such activities.”
Michał Kołodziejczak, head of the AGROunia group, earlier said that farmers were protesting “because trade [in agricultural produce] in Poland is very badly organised and family farms, on which food production in our country is based, are losing out.”
