Suspect admits planning attack on Polish parliament: prosecutors

A man detained by Polish authorities has admitted to planning an attack on the country’s parliament, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

“The man was prepared to accept the fact that he could be killed by taking such action," said Mirosława Kalinowska-Zajdak from the District Prosecutor's Office in Kraków, southern Poland.
Kalinowska-Zajdak added that the 28-year-old suspect could not fully explain his motives.
Officers seized knives, replica weapons and a gas mask in his apartment, state news agency PAP reported.
The suspect was detained after death threats were sent to Polish ex-president Lech Wałęsa and 10 city mayors.
Letters addressed to the officials contained an empty rifle cartridge and photographs of several city mayors, including Paweł Adamowicz, the late mayor of Gdańsk in northern Poland.
Adamowicz died of severe wounds after he was stabbed by a knifeman during a high-profile annual charity fundraiser on January 14. The killing caused shock in Poland.
