With just over three weeks to go before the general election, support for the ruling Civic Platform (PO) party is falling but slowly growing for the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL).

As the TNS OBOP poll released reveals, Civic Platform has lost four percentage points compared to last month’s results, dropping to a 41-percent backing.
The opposition Law and Justice party (PiS) headed by Jarosław Kaczyński came second in the opinion poll, garnering 29 percent of votes, up by one percentage point.
Support for the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) remains stable at 13 percent.
Things are looking up for the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL), the current junior coalition partner, which has seen a record-high backing since January, standing at 8 percent.
The party started off the year below the 5-percent electoral threshold, with just 3 percent.
Such a good result is down to the party’s higher profile in the media and its tack of avoiding feisty rhetoric in the political discourse, says PSL party member Stanisław Żelichowski.
As the official has stressed, the party may well see a repeat of the results from the last local elections, which won the party 16 percent of votes.
The survey was carried out on a sample of 967 adults on 21-24 July. (ab/pg)
